An Accidental Quilt Collection

Welcome into our home, Glitterinas!

I got an interesting question about my quilts
from a friend who reads the blog.

She wondered about some of the different quilts she'd seen
under things and draped around areas
in our home.

I bought a quilt as a gift for someone
only to find out that they
didn't like vintage quilts,
they only liked new ones.

Oooooops!

As a result, I had a pretty vintage quilt
to use around our house.

I noticed another vintage quilt in an
antique store that I thought would look
pretty with the first quilt I had.....

guess what....

that second quilt came home with me and it
did look great with the first quilt!

I found another....

and another one.....oh my!

I was hooked on vintage, hand sewn, quilts and a collection
  was begun!

Quilts look good in so many places....

......friendship quilts intrigue me.
I have several that I have found
in antique stores here and there.

Here's another one over a cabinet near the
back door that holds candles, bubbles, chalk and other
smalls that need a spot.

Wouldn't it be great if those stitched names could
share something about
the quilt they adorn?

The bed in our guest bedroom has layers of quilts
on it.

It also has a sweet kitty made from
a quilt.....fun!

One of my star quilts hangs out on the
bedside table with some
vintage doilies on top.

I like to use quilts on chairs, too.

This prayer quilt was made by ladies in my Mother's church
for her when she was ill.

Each knot represents a prayer said
for her.  This is such a special quilt.

The seat of this chair holds a quilt made for Mom
by her talented cousin, Thelma.

The fabric used was leftover pieces from clothes my Mother made for
my sister and I.....this quilt holds a very special place
in my ol' sentimental heart!

Quilts can do a full drape over an antique
chair.....

....this is a crib quilt.  They are a bit harder to find.
They are much smaller but they hold as much love as the larger ones!

Ladders provide a great display space
for quilts and crochet work.

This quilt was a wedding gift to husband's
grandparents.  My father in law brought
this beautiful quilt to me one afternoon (along with another colorful one)
....this was a sweet, thoughtful surprise that made me cry.

Here's another ladder showing off some
lovelies....

.....the china doll in the pink dress was made for me by my
very talented Mom when I was in 3rd grade.

Two more crib quilts.

I am so sentimental about these pretties.

What do you enjoy in your home that
you are sentimental about, Glitterinas?

I feel so lucky to be able to have and enjoy
these quilts.....

This one is on my chest of drawers.

Doesn't the light make the pink look
so different?

The chair at my small bedroom desk holds
one of my newest treasures.

A sunbonnet girl crib quilt....

.....each girl is just a little different.

A large, cedar chest that sits at the
foot of our bed is covered
with a quilt.

I sit here every morning to get dressed.
This crazy, colorful quilt makes
me smile.

I've shared many quilts with you that I have
downstairs....
....but the majority of my quilts live on the
bannister of our
staircase.

When we decided to buy this house
I was so excited to have a place
where my quilts could hang and look
so lovely!

Up the stairs.....here we go....

....and around!

I air out the quilts at least twice a year.
I re-fold them so different areas are on the
outside.

Some of my quilts are super fragile and have areas that
are quite worn.

Some are still in terrific condition.....but all of them
are completely hand stitched and very well loved!

What a collection!

I tell my girls that when the Lord calls me home,
they can sell all my quilts (and all of my other collected
junk, I mean treasures) and take a fun vacation!

Don't you think they make a nice background
for the vignettes in the house?

You are so great to let me share
my treasures with you, Glitterinas!

Leave me a note so I'll know you stopped by.

Share a collection you have, please.....I
enjoy all your notes!

Quilts, quilts everywhere,
Tammy
