A Thankful Tree....and a Bit of This and That!

Hello Thankful Glitterinas!

How do you answer the question "What are you thankful for?" or to make the grammar police happy "For what are you thankful?"

I try to remember each and every day to be thankful for all of the wonderful blessings the Lord pours out over me!

This year I decided to make a Thankful Tree.  

I started with a tall pecan branch that has a lovely curve to it.....I used my electric cutter to make some leaves from pieces of pretty paper.

Next, I cut some small labels.

Then I punched out some round shapes to glue on some of the labels....I'll write on these.

What am I thankful for this year?

Jesus

Family

Friends

Love

Abundance

My list starts out almost the same every year....it just gets longer!

This year I am very aware of the blessing of "abundance".

The leaves that have writing on them got an extra little piece of ribbon through the label and the rest of the leaves got a splash of glitter......then they all got a ribbon for hanging!

I anchored the pecan branch in a small carafe with some little, gravel rocks and then hung all the leaves.

This would be a fun project to do with children! 

At school, Sunday School, with grand children.....with whom could you make a Thankful Tree?

I put this little "tree" on a side table in the dining room.

I like the way this little reminder helps me to voice my answer to the question

"What are you thankful for, Tammy?"

Both daughters, our son-in-law, Papaw, and our busy grand~darlings will be joining my 

husband and I for our big Thanksgiving dinner. 

We are so blessed!

I want to share some fun things that will be waiting for everyone at the dining room table.

Crayon holder turkeys....gobble, gobble, gobble!

Pine cones, paper, and crayons......toooo fun!

Prizes for a Thanksgiving guessing game.....

Even the pumpkin wanted to dress up for the big day this year!

She Who Plays with Dishes

Hello, you lovely Glitterinas!

I am so glad you stopped by today....you can help me out!

You don't mind do you.....I just need your opinion!

I bought some cute, fall colored leaf dishes.  They are part of the Fall 2013 line from Better Homes and Gardens.....wait, it gets even better.....I found them at Wal Mart! 

I set five place settings using my new leaf plates with a different dinner plate for each one.  I am not sure which I like the best....so I want to know which YOU like best.

I have my dining room table all decorated for fall.  I used some of my favorite things.

Some days the table gets a little added touch from outside.....

Beautiful autumn colors!

When we actually sit down to dine, I remove the little ladder.  I love it on the table, but it blocks conversation.....I certainly can't have that at dinner!

Let's take a look at the different place settings.....each one has the same silverware, glass, napkin and charger....oh, and the new leaf plate!  Each setting has a different dinner plate.

The Rusty Wire Rack Gets a Makeover.....

Hello Glitterinas!

Are you enjoying Fall so far?  

We are having some cooler days and chilly nights here in central Texas....just as it should be!

My rusty wire rack from a previous post has gotten a makeover!

Here it was on the island table in the kitchen.....looking cute....

Here it is now.....on a side table in the dining room.

With the Thankful Tree arching above....

Gobble, gobble.....here come the turkeys!

It's their time to be a star!

I have no idea how long this little rusty wire rack will look like this....or how long it will stay here.

I like the way it looks, so it might make it until the Bunco girls come over.

We'll just have to wait and see!

A Rusty Wire Rack and a Few Plates

Hello Glitterinas!

Do you like to shop in antique stores?  I do.

Do you prefer the fancy ones or the junky ones?  I like to look in the fancy ones and buy in the junky ones!

I have to tell you about one of my favorite junk places.......Papaw's barn!

Dig, dig, dig.....oh, a treasure!

Dig, dig, dig......oh, a mouse has been here....don't touch that, get the shovel!

Dig, dig, dig......oh, another goodie!

The last time several of us got together to help clean out part of the old barn we each had a "keep" pile....there were throw away piles, burn piles, maybe piles, save piles.....you get the picture!

When I find treasures at Papaw's the price is always right....I ask if I can have it and he takes a look at it, usually laughs, and then says yes!  Sometimes he has a story to go with the treasure!

A treasure in my keep pile was a rusty wire rack......it was probably used to display things on a counter in some store.

I brought it home and cleaned it up.  That little rusty rack was just waiting for inspiration to hit my feeble brain.....

Then one day......inspiration struck.....would it be sturdy enough to hold plates?  I gave it a try.

Yes....it would!

I just started standing plates in the sections of the rack.....

my Thanksgiving plates, 

one of grandmother's everyday plates, 

some yellow, Fiesta plates.... that make me think of Shylo, a friend of Ashley's, who collects Fiesta,

some small pumpkin plates,  a couple butter pat dishes and bone plates for the front,

a cornucopia plate.......this was fun!

A piece of pink depression glass is tucked in the middle and there are two smiling jack o lanterns that will have to come out since their season has passed.....sadly, the cute spider runner will have to be put away!

I tucked some orange and black garland around the bottom edge of the rack.....

Hmmmm, not sure I like it.....so, out it comes.

Better......yes, I like it!  

Mr. Scarecrow agrees!

I like playing with dishes....this is really fun.  

I wonder how much time I'll spend fiddling with the dishes in this little ol' rusty rack?

Here is the other side of the island table.....showing the back of the rack.  You can see the carafe filled with rocks holding a tall branch.  At Halloween I had some funny little signs with trick or treaters and witches hanging on it.  For Thanksgiving time it will be our Thankful Tree.

Already a tweek.......I added a metal pumpkin on the left.

And another tweek......a small pumpkin plate on the lower right....and I moved the pink depression glass plate in front of grandmother's white plate.

Uh oh.....I could fiddle with this all day....

What about dinner.....let's eat out!

What about the laundry.....don't make me laugh....

Well, I have some dishes to play with.....but I thank you very much for stopping by Pink Glitter today!

Simple and Elegant Dinner

Hello Glitterinas!

We had a visit from our youngest daughter!

It's always so nice to have her at home......she doesn't live that far away, but still......

One of her favorite things to eat is salmon.....

                      .......so guess what's on the menu when she comes home!

Yum, yum!  

A healthy dinner that's so yummy and simple to prepare is always a favorite of this cook!

Now I enjoy all the aspects of food......

I like grocery shopping (really!), reading cook books, preparing food, trying new recipes, trotting out old favorite recipes, setting the table, picking out serving pieces, and then sitting down with friends and family at a pretty table to eat a meal!  

I also like help with clean up!  hee hee

On this particular night, the table looked elegant, set with silver, blingy mercury glass, crystal, a little lace and burlap..... a few candles added a nice touch, too.  

I used two white, vintage tablecloths that were grand parents' wedding gifts and ivory crocheted place mats for a pretty start to this tablescape.....

Dinner was served and we all enjoyed the salmon, Italian green beans and herbed rice.  Sweet tea topped everything off.
